Maren Morris recently revealed that she may not be done with country music after all, despite previously sharing plans to step back from the genre. In an interview with The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on November 7, she shared, “I don’t think [country music is] something you can really leave because it’s a music that’s in me and that’s what I grew up doing.” She emphasized that country music is a part of her and that it’s the music she writes, even though she has been “genre-fluid” throughout her career.
Addressing her previous comments about leaving country music, Morris explained, “You can’t scrub the country music out. So, it was very hyperbolic.” When asked directly if she was leaving country music, Morris firmly stated, “No, no. I’m taking the good parts with me and all are welcome.” She admitted that there were aspects of country music that she no longer resonated with, but clarified that she’s a lot happier now.
Additionally, Morris has discussed that there are aspects of country music that she still loves and appreciates, such as the amazing songwriters in Nashville. She stated, “I love living in Nashville, I have my family. There’s a reason why people come there from L.A. and New York to write with us. It’s because we have amazing songwriters there. That’s not gonna change.”
